This was the second year running that Bagby had held a fly-in and for the second year running the date clashed with the Sunderland Airshow although unlike last year , the clash of dates did not seem to deter aircraft from the north of our patch making the journey south to attend . The weather for most of the morning was overcast with the wind gusting 17 to 19 knots from the north which kept the microlights away although not so some of the ‘heavier metal’ with PA-32 Cherokee Six G-NEAL being first in on the day , arriving just before 11am . I write “first in on the day” as Denney Kitfox Mk2 G-LEED had arrived from it’s base at Compton Abbas the previous Thursday , 23rd , and departed just after noon as the wind began to ease and the sky brighten .
PA-28 Cherokee Archer II G-FBRN did a low flypast late morning whilst out on a cross-country nav-ex from it’s base at Teesside Airport and the more lightweight visitors started to arrive , mostly from bases within Yorkshire although the immaculately turned out Luscombe 8E
G-AJKB made it over the Pennines from it’s base at Barton and Hapi Cygnet G-BYYC came up from it’s base in the Midlands . The based Homeserve Bell 429 Global Ranger M-HRPN took up an hours slot for pleasure flights in the afternoon which at £25 per seat , and a decent circuit of the airfield and Vale Of York , seemed to be good value for money .
