LEEDS EAST FLYING LEGENDS SHOW 15 July 2023 Dave Anderson
The Flying Legends wardirds airshow has moved from its home at Duxford to the former RAF Church Fenton airfield now known as Leeds East. With the RIAT at Fairford show on the same weekend and not looking like it was worth the drive, I decided to have a day out with the family and enjoy some warbirds. Four generations of us headed off with young grandson Jacob (age 5) attending his first airshow. The weather forecast looked terrible but we had upgraded our tickets to include the use of a marquee so hopefully we wouldn’t get too wet. Arriving at the show just after 10am we drove straight in with no traffic delays and through the ticket gates in a few minutes. The flight line was open to walk down until 12pm, when shortly after the first thunderstorm arrived this cleared and by 2pm when the flying display started it was blue skies and sunshine and remained so for the duration. After the last aircraft displayed we headed out and once again no delays.
The show is not huge and no visiting aircraft are allowed, a few didn’t make it due to the weather but overall it was a great day out and well worth the trip. Thanks to Ricky Clarkson for some additions in the hangars.
