Dave Rose planned a day trip to Prestwick for some Canadian visitors and invited Chris and Dave along for the ride, Dave had work commitments, but Chris was able to put a short notice holiday request in. Chris has always ventured south on road trips and he was quite surprised how easy it is to get here, he isn't quite sure why he thought it was so difficult!? Chris was also making his debut at Prestwick and was jealous for lack of a better word that an airport that is quieter than Teesside has so much more variety. What was also surprising was the lack of flying school activity in unusually good weather conditions - Eden and Scenic would have been up and down all day. We had an early scare during the drive to the southside mound where we would be settling for a few hours, we had views across the airfield from the road but no DC10s were visible, happily they suddenly appeared at the last minute!

Unfortunately, the Omega DC-10 tanker and 6x Hornets cancelled as one had a tech problem, and we missed an Air Belgium A330F operating for Air France Cargo, but luckily we caught the Canadian C-17 just in the nick of time as it was taxiing as we arrived. After lunch, we had a drive around the various nooks and crannies to see if we could find anything else and to confirm some registrations, unfortunately we couldn't get a good vantage point of the flying club parking near the tower. It was interesting to see the old British Aerospace manufacturing facility, Chris doesn't like seeing hangars used for anything other than aircraft and there are plenty of them at Prestwick! Cracking day out.
