Teesside International Airport

A Definitive Timetable

As a new project and just a bit of fun, we're going to take a look at which variations of each type of airline operation was the definitive example of its kind from Teesside. The eventual goal based on our findings is to build two fictional timetables, one "idealistic" ignoring operator/aircraft availability and a second "realistic" to see how much of the first might be achievable in the current marketplace, providing of course this can be done without breaching our no-conjecture policy.

Judged on longevity, consistency and balance, here is the definitive cargo and freight operation.

Cargo and Freight

Belgium

Liège via Hannover

Our only cargo route with TNT Airways and it worked very well, it is believed it was axed as part of a wider cost-cutting exercise and not in relation to the performance of the service.

Potential Routes

Amazon

It is felt an Amazon cargo network is only a matter of time, and we've been working closely with local air cargo expert Scott Cooper to work out what form that might take based on Amazon's current patterns. Cologne Bonn, Madrid and Milan Malpensa are all strong contenders, with Barcelona, Leipzig Halle and Rome Fiumicino also possibilities. We will present our findings in the realistic timetable.

FedEx Express

With FedEx Express having purchased TNT Express, might there be scope to relocate their Glasgow - Newcastle - Paris C-d-G service to us? Their Tyneside facilities are thought to be about as extensive as their Teesside facilities, so we could do with something to just tip the scales a little bit more in our favour!

Royal Mail

The airport management for years tried to tempt the Royal Mail to move their three routes of Bristol (West Atlantic), East Midlands and London Stansted (Jet2) from Newcastle to Teesside but to no avail. It was often rumoured the mail was trucked to a distribution centre that was located closer to us than Newcastle, on reflection this was probably not the case but at the same time there is a distribution centre close to us, and it is also thought Royal Mail bosses at one time did want to move the flights, but the workforce resisted the idea of transferring branches. With this in mind these flights will likely be included in the idealistic timetable, but not the realistic one as they have since been discontinued.

In the final part we take a look at everything else remaining.
