"G-BRDO returns home" Dave Anderson & Colin Granton Saturday 9th June 2012 You may have noticed that our resident Cardinal G-BRDO has been away on maintenance for the last three months, having had a major service including a complete engine rebuild in effect bringing its engine time back to zero. When news finally came through that it was ready for collection, Colin was chomping at the bit to get her home, with the weather looking ok, Saturday was scheduled to collect the plane. With the very kind assistance of fellow H3E resident David Breden we went down in Cherokee Arrow G-STEA departing Teesside at 1040. The Cardinal was serviced at Derby Egginton airfield, a very unusual and difficult place to land, with a very short runway and some very high trees at the threshold, access is limited to weight, wind and aircraft types, the arrow didn't fit the criteria so we landed a few miles away at Tatenhill. The flight down was smooth and took just an hour routing between Doncaster and Leeds and then a straight line down towards Tatenhill. After a bacon bun, the car from Egginton had arrived to pick us up. The following were logged at Tatenhill, there we more but well spread out across the airfield. Tatenhill Saturday 9th June 2012
As the aircraft's engine was now almost brand new, a two hour test flight had to be done at various power settings followed by an oil change. Colin planned at route out of Derby, leaving at 1415 we climbed out to the West to 5000ft and headed to Welshpool, climbing through cloud we came out into the clear around 4500ft. At Welshpool we turned East, heading towards Birmingham then turning South to our next turning point at Staverton, while flying over the airfield resident Falcon 900EX Easy G-JPSZ was a nice sight under us while on finals to land. The weather by now had cleared and we headed off to the next turning point at Sywell in Northants, via a quick circle over Colin's work HQ nr Silverstone, at Sywell we took a straight line back to Derby flying over Bruntingthorpe and skirting by East Midlands. The landing back at 1620 was as ever at Derby, interesting, the following were noted around the airfield, there were more, a lot in storage that I had noted on the last visit and were not logged. Derby Egginton Saturday 9th June 2012
Following the oil change it was back in the air at 1740
for a straight line direct to Teesside, we took a left turn after Leeds and
passed west abeam Leeming for a quick look, the clouds parted conveniently
though there wasn't much to see from the families day that was being held. An
ILS onto runway 05 and we arrived back in the wet at 1840. |
