Well it was expected to be nice and sunny on Sunday, so what
better excuse for a "jolly" to Cambridge. Why there? Well it's there, no other
reason and one of the syndicate pilots wanted some flying hours so off we went
for lunch. Not being in a rush, an 11am departure was scheduled with a fuel stop
a Bagby. Yes, they have fuel at Teesside but at nearly 40p a litre cheaper at Bagby!, when you're filling a Cardinal up it makes a difference. So if anyone
from the airport is reading this, come on, get on with bringing the fuel prices
down if you want to attract more GA. Our slightly late take off at 1120 worked
well with both the Netjets and Spanish Beech 400's that were due earlier passing
over and behind us as we headed south. After a short flight and couple of
"landings!" at Bagby, a quick fuel up, off we went south at 3500ft routing down
to the East of Doncaster over the top of
RAF Waddington towards
Peterborough and into Cambridge an hour and 15 minutes later. A very pleasant
lunch in the Marshalls Executive Lounge that conveniently has a big glass window
overlooking their maintenance hangar, sadly not a great deal of interest in it.
Our return trip was the same route in reverse this time we came back at FL45, a
number of gliders were up at the same height one (G-CHEP
out of Crowland, Lincs) came fairly close so we had to maintain a good look out.
Once again a fuel stop after a few more "landings" at Bagby, a chill
out coffee in the sunshine and back home to Teesside for just after 6pm.
