Sliac Mig-29's

The hotel we stayed in was in a town called Banska Bysrica a few miles from the first base visit at Sliac, But first in the town was a Li-2 to look at in the town
Day 2
Banska Bysrica 26-03-09
20 (2105) White Li-2
The Li-2 could be seen from the hotel room window through some trees but we wanted a photo it anyway. Leaving here we set out for Sliac and the base tour
Sliac 26-03-09
Sliac is the home to 1 Sqn of the Slovak AF with their MiG-29 and L-39 aircraft also here is a detachment of Mil-8 helicopters on SAR duties, We met up with our guide for the mornings tour who took us on base and let us have free photo opportunities apart from the QRA barns we could not get these in the back ground of any of our photos. The main reason for the visit was to see the 26 stored MiG-21,s on base before the go. The weather was cool to say the least and the Snow was coming down making visibility very poor but before long the wind picked up and a Blizzard started, On the base taking photos our guide asked me "Has he got a coat ?", The reply from me was "No" Our guide said "I think he is mad !!" i agreed. The MiG-21,s are stored on the Southern end of the base in 5 groups, Starting at the Southern end and in order of the groups we saw. the day was a none flying day because of the weather so everything was on the deck but quite a bit was locked up in the hangars and HAS,s so not all the based aircraft were seen, Another trip back is needed i think.

Also stored on the field are a number of MiG-29,s one of which is fire damaged and will not fly again, All but one "29" are stored in "Bags" so this makes them quite difficult to see unless you are very close. The "Bags" consist of ALL the upper surfaces, nose, exhausts and tails been covered with only the side of the engines are visable, the under sides are not covered and carry the c/n,s near the main under carrage doors so we were able to "ID" all of them

EMOOS has 9308 as stored but this was not stored outside but 4401 and 6425 were stored and bagged outside so it looks like they move around quite a bit
The other type on the base is the L-39, A small number of these were seen again many were "Bagged" so we had to make do with looking at the underside and getting the c/n,s off the under carrage doors and tie-ing them up that way

The last call of the day was another small airfield for a MiG-15
Slavnica 26-03-09
5153 MiG-15
OM-PYB An-2
(OK-BYQ) Li-2
The Li-2 may have moved in from the town as there is or was one there acting as a restaurant, The one here is unmarked and we did not go into the town looking for the restaurant
Well that was another day done we drove for 2 hours or so to Poprad and got a "Free" hotel and a very nice meal, The evening staff thought we would pay in the morning and the morning staff thought we had paid the evening staff. We departed after trying for 15 mins to sort it out when they morning staff told us to go, No arguments there then. So if you need a cheap hotel in Poprad its the ............... on .......... UT left after the second lights then first right.
Back with and another base visit this time to Presov the Slovak helicopter base, We had only visited here once before and that was last August so to get on and see the Mi-24,s and Mi-17,s,s up close was great. Again we were met at the gate and our guide could not do enough for us with full photo visit on the field and in the hangars
