A very cheap £10 each way (including taxes) deal with easyJet prompted me to
make the journey to Belfast for the day in late January 08. I checked-in online
the night before and, since I was only taking my camera bag, arrived at
Newcastle Airport 45 mins before departure, walking straight through security to
grab a coffee, and then board the 07:05 departure aboard G-EZJZ.

The flight lasted around 40 minutes, and was incredibly bumpy. It was still dark
and raining on arrival at Belfast.
The ramp was buzzing with aircraft arriving on the morning rush-hour. I headed
straight to the viewing room which looks over the runway and main passenger
ramp, noting everything for an hour or so.

When the movements quietened down, I picked up the hire car I'd booked and drove
to Belfast City Airport. The
journey takes about 30 minutes and is fairly straightforward. Inside the
terminal, head straight upstairs to the
food court which has large windows overlooking the ramp and runway. The fairly
compact airport was fairly busy at first, but quietened down later.

Back at Belfast International it was time to hunt down the Trident hidden in a
remote corner, used by the airport
fire services, which was needed. Just beyond the terminal area, a track runs
alongside the perimeter fence and
after climbing over a few thorn bushes I could see and photograph the derelict
aircraft. I went back to the viewing room to log what was at the gates before
heading through to departures. The views are just as good, and walking along the
pier gives a good vantage point. Sadly the cargo ramp cannot be seen from the
terminal, but the aircraft stay all day and you can log them from the car park.
My flight was delayed by two hours, so a few more aircraft were logged but this
is only really useful for low-cost fleets. G-EZJC was the aircraft back to
Newcastle, arriving around 8pm.
