The bank holiday forecast looked favourable, so a trip to Manchester was planned, its been a few years since a solid shooting day was had, so it would be rude not to!! An early start meant we were parked up at the Airport Inn on the south-side by 9am (they now charge here, about £1 an hour), then the hike towards the airport.
They were taking off on 23L so we headed for the holding point mound, along with many more, this is still a fantastic spot, with a wide angle lens being required for larger stuff. The sky was clear all day so we made the most of it, with a constant stream of traffic until 13:30 ish. They changed to 05R at around that time so we went round to the T1 MSCP to make sure everything parked up was seen, one interesting development along with the new T2 Pier is the new MSCP at the northern end of T2. It seems much higher than T2 itself and may give good views from the top level, once the new pier is fully operational.
The normal mix of scheduled and IT traffic was on offer, highlights were a Turkish A321 Neo, 4 x Virgin B744's, Virgin A346, 2 X SAS CRJ900's, SIA A359, Cathay A359 and a sprinkling of Biz.
For info, the 5 TUI B738Max aircraft stored here are parked together in the run up area close to the 23R threshold, for the record they are G-TUMA,B,C,D,G. They can be seen from the perimeter road, but not photographed.
