NOTES: | The NAL Gulfstream was here for some crew training before departing to Heathrow. The two Typhoons "Triplex 71/72" (ZK352/BV & ZK381/EX) that came back with Falcon 20 "Vader 61" this afternoon caused a bit of a stir with the locals (Evening Gazette etc). One of the roles that the RAF Air Defence provide is the interception of unknown aircraft approaching the UK or aircraft that have lost radio contact. Our based Falcon jets are used as bait in the training of such roles for the RAF Typhoons, once intercepted over the North Sea the Falcon is escorted back to an airfield, in this case Durham Tees Valley. As they approach the airfield the Falcon will descend to land while the Typhoons will break off and head home, this is the noisy bit, in todays training mission one of the Typhoon jets remained at 5000ft in an orbit while his wingman brought the Falcon in, over Stockton the exercise was completed and they both met up again before returning home to RAF Coningsby the Typhoon is a noisy aircraft especially when turning and climbing. So nothing untoward, no sonic booms no unusual manoeuvers just our RAF pilots doing what they do best. The expected Hercules (ZH875) was too late and didn't do its overshoot. |
