Has a new resident in
the shape of a new company , RS Aviation who are an aircraft
valeting , refinishers and rejuvenators . The owners had looked at
other local airfields including a previous visit to Fishburn
earlier in the year and chose to set up base here due to,
amongst other things , it’s long runway and being on a chalk
plain , it’s ability to drain and remain operational in the
winter months . We shall see !
At present the operating
team of three are busy putting up an inner wooden frame in one
half of the hangar to affix insulating boards to and which will
then become their spray booth which needs to operate at a
temperature of around 22oC whilst the other half will be fitted
out as a workshop . At the moment their only resident aviation
connections are a 1940 Fordson WOT1A/1 lorry with a rear cabin
and a 1950’s Ferguson tractor which spent it’s working life at
RAF Valley !
The lack of any airworthy aviation connection will change big time in the early part of the new year with the arrival of their first commission , and what a commission it will be as it will come in the shape of T-6 Harvard 4 KF729 , really G-BJST which is presently based at Duxford . The aircraft has lost it’s top coat of lacquer and some paint and the owners have decided to not only repaint the aircraft but to give it a new identity too in the guise of Harvard IIB AJ841 which flew with both 74OTU and 154 Squadron in the Middle East and it’s proposed desert camouflage scheme will reflect this .
I understand that the
work involved to complete the planned repainting will take
several weeks and that if the owners are pleased with the
results then other ‘exotic’ types could also find their way to
Fishburn for similar make-over’s in the future . Needless to say
we wish RS Aviation every success !
