This years vacation was to be another cruise, I had booked independently using EZY from NCL to join the ship in Rome. After checking in the following were seen before departure on A319 G-EZDF.

After a pleasent 2 hrs 25mins flight at FL390 we arrived on RW15 at Rome Ciampino in the dark. I had taken my "on board" scanner with me and the routing was OTR - LAMSO - PAM - ARKON - KRH - TGO - KPT - BOA - BOL and into CIA. The Airport is now used by LCC's, RYR have 6 B738s based here and EZY and Wizz are regulars. Many Biz jets are based here along with the Italian AF Exec transports A319 / Falcon 900 / Falcon 50, along with the Canadair CL415 Water bombers of Sisam. A few seen during taxi in were -

We joined the incredible Celebrity Equinox the next day at Civitavechia and set sail towards Santorini, where nothing was seen. The next day we arrived at Mykonos and bagged these landing over the ship -

We then headed off to Istanbul, we sailed very close to the end of the main 36L/R runways when arriving and departing the next day. It looks a very busy and interesting place with what seemed lots of stored stuff. I managed the following off the top deck of the ship -

The next port of call was Kusadasi in Turkey, here are the ruins of Ephesis which was a major city recently unearthed. Passing the local airfield on the bus were the following -

I had negotiated a "Day pass" with er indoors for our next port, Athens.( On condition she had my Gold card!!) This was my second visit here and I took the excellent Metro from Pireaus to the airport which took 45 minutes so got there at 9am. The photo opportunities are excellent if the wind puts arrivals on 03L, unfortunately they were landing on 21R so I spotted from the elevated section of the long term car park and McDonalds in the terminal. You get all movements but photos are poor and through tinted glass, never mind the log built up as follows -

Athens is set up similar to LHR, 2 parallel runways with the terminal in the middle. This is joined by crossing taxiways and the main stands are near to 03R /21L. Biz park near the Olympic maintainance on the east side and are very hard to read off,I had contacted a spotter called Bob through JetPhotos.net who worked as an apron controller and he drove me airside during his break. This was a great help with the Biz parked next to the Olympic hangars. On the west side are Cargo and Aegean hangars, so its very spread out. Traffic is Manchester - ish in frequency but with lots of inter island repeats from Olympic, interesting movements are a daily Etihad A320 and Qatar A321, along with the normal european carriers. Long haul is mainly to the states but SIA and Emirates link daily. Most of the ex-Olympic fleet are gathering rust parked along a northern taxiway, Athens Airways are looking dodgy and 2 of their EMB 145s are stored in cargo.

After 2 weeks bobbing about it was time to head home, I had heard that spotting was risky at CIA so after checking in I had a wander across to the GA terminal. Keeping a low profile I managed quite a few of the Biz etc then went into departures which allowed me to read off the air force stuff which use their own apron on the north side -

Back to NCL on G-EZAM with a similar routing until over the Alps we turned towards Brussels then to Clacton, Betax and into NCL. All in all a good blend of food, drink sightseeing and spotting!!.
