                                      TENERIFE AIRPORTS 2009

It was time once again to blow the Winter cobwebs away and get some sun!! So it was off to Tenerife on March 29th, starting early with a 10am departure from Newcastle on Thomson 757 G-BYAH. The only thing of note at Newcastle was C130J ZH868 and S61N G-ATFM. In typical 757 style we rocketed skywards routing south towards Exeter, Brest, Santiago, Madeira and finally Tenerife South at FL350 arriving after 4 hours.

During the winter Tenerife is at its busiest, mainly with Scandinavians and Germans, Sunday is Scandinavian day with around 35 arrivals mingled with the normal stuff and Friday is British day, again with around 40 arrivals from the UK. Monday has around 10 Italian and French arrivals and the rest of the week is German, Wednesday has over 50 German movements. Scheduled movements have increased since I was here last June and consist of -

SPOTTING - This hasnt changed since my last visit, there are no views around the Terminal. If you have a car you can get good shots at any time of day from close to the 08 threshold. Leave TF1 motorway and head for Los Abrigos, about half a mile from the junction take a left turn to Abrigal and follow the track until you see the white AENA concrete pillars. turn right and head towards the threshold and this is an excellent spot in the afternoon. In the morning drive into Los Abrigos and take a left through the school and look for the AENA pillars, you will then be opposite the afternoon spot. Once airside there are shots available through tinted glass in the departure lounge that covers the whole apron.

                                                                      TENERIFE NORTE

I took a drive up to Tenerife North and this takes about 45 minutes from the south. Take the TF1 towards Santa Cruz and then the TF5 towards La Laguna, come off the exit for El Teide and follow the road through the approach lights and park at the elevated houses next to the Butchers. The spot here is excellent in the afternoon if they are landing on 30 as they touch down in front of you and you are slightly elevated. On the day I visited they were landing from the opposite end so I went to look for a spot, without success as its all built up to the boundary fence, the wind was light so some arrivals landed on 30 but everything departed on 15!!. You can get around the Terminal area as the old Viscount is in a disused car park looking sorry for itself!! The flying club had about 6 tins around, on with the log -

BINTER - ATR72 EC-IYC,JBI,KRY,KYI  ISLAS - ATR72 EC-KNO,KKZ,IKQ  CLICKAIR - A320 EC-HTD,ICR   SPANAIR - A320 EC-IVG  SWIFTAIR - B733F EC-KRA
