Grabbing the Last Rays!!
We thought we would have a relaxing long weekend at the "La Manga Club" in the Murcia region of Spain. "JET2" have a regular flight from Geordieland so we set off on Thursday 17th Sept, Boeing 733Combi G-CELZ was chosen and we departed 07 on time. I had my new "onboard" scanner with me so this provided the entertainment for the 3 hour flight. After a right turn it was the usual route south to Gasko, Ribel, Croft, Goodwood, Sitet, and down central France to Amboise and over the Pyrenees then turning towards Valencia, Alicante and into San Javier. These Combis are showing their age slightly but still quite sprightly, as we approached the Controller suggested we may need to hold because the military hadn't finished for the day!! In the end we made a straight in approach for 23 passing rows and rows of Spanish AF Casa 101 Aviojets. Murcia is a very busy training base and is the home of the Spanish display team. The civil side is dominated by low cost carriers, Ryanair, BMIbaby, Air Berlin etc and Air Nostrum link Barcelona and Madrid with CRJ900s. The Terminal is very "DTV" and is being expanded, the light and Biz park round the side and we logged the famous Chilean Navajo as we drove off in the hire car. After a lovely few days in which Dave ate a lot "see photo" and he beat me at Golf!!(bandit) we arrived back for the return to Newcastle. G-CELA was chosen and we set off more or less up the coast to Barcelona then up to Cherborg and then right to Midhurst, Betax, and into Newcastle. A lovely clear day with many airports and fields identified, we even copped some Biz at LHR as we went over at FL340!! Anyway here is the log - NCL 17/9/09 LHR OTT 20/9/09 A few shots
