Having booked on a trip to Russia later in the year and also having to sort my own visa out would result in me making a visit to the Russian Embassy in Edinburgh, The light nights also would make it possible to shoot the cargo movements at EDI, So basically now though it was just waiting for the weather to be kind!  So after checking the forecast it looked as though Wednesday was the day to head up to Scotland’s premier Airport!

The plan was to head to Edinburgh Retail Park near the Airport!  I left the car there and got the train into Edinburgh centre,  So after sorting the paper work out it was back to pick up the car and head to Edinburgh Airport! First was a quick visit round to the business aviation ramp then off across to Ingliston market ground!!  Classic shots can be got from here early morning to mid afternoon where then its time to move to the other side of the runway!  I got to ingliston about midday so missed a few of the transatlantic movements departing! plus the sun was getting a bit awkward!

The directions are! Head to the airport as normal from the A8 but turn left at the last roundabout before you get to the terminal!  just follow the Ingliston market ground signposts! You will come to a t-junction! Turn right and head for the hotel sign then you will see the runway and and the fence on the right!! You will need a good set of steps but the results are awesome especially if the weather is kind as the sun will be behind you in the morning up until early afternoon!!

Once the sun has got round then it’s off to the north side as the Runway alignments are very similar to DTV!  Anyway head out of the airport and turn right on to the A8 and head to the motorway roundabout (M8/M9) where you have to go all the way round the roundabout and head back towards the Airport! Back on the A8!! Just after leaving the Roundabout take the first sharp left signposted Kirkliston!  This road takes you under the approach of the runway and eventually comes to a t-junction where you turn right towards Kirkliston!!  Follow into the Kirkliston until you hit a major crossroads where you turn right! Follow that and it brings you down to a crash gate!! Once here it’s a bit like Manchester where there is a grass footpath that leads you to a mound that is excellent for photography!!   A big bonus at Edinburgh is that the Police/Security is very spotter friendly!!!! Unlike at DTV!!!!!!!  I was seen numerous times up my steps but was never approached once!!! I did eventually go over and speak to the local old bill on one of there visits to the crash gate!  Where the reply from them was “BATTER ON!!!” in a true Scottish accent!!!! So with that in mind it was a most enjoyable afternoon shooting up till 10pm!!!
