Our first trip of 2009 was to Switzerland, with the main emphasis being on biz jets, the trip was arranged to coincide with the World Economic |

Forum that is held every year at Davos not to far away from Zurich. Zurich Airport is the main host for the executive jets transporting the Davos |
|
|
||||||||||
|
visitors, we had decided to visit over the weekend 30 Jan - 01 Feb which are the departure days of the event. Many of the high ranking banking |
|
|
||||||||||
|
fraternity had decided to give Davos a miss this year (guilty conscience perhaps) however this did not detract from the quality of visitors that were |
|
|
||||||||||
|
seen. |
|

|

|
|
||||||||||
|
We had booked easyjet from Newcastle to Geneva return which gave us the chance to visit Geneva and Bern whilst travelling to / from Zurich. |
|
|
||||||||||
|
So early on Friday 30th January we set off for Newcastle and boarded our A319 ''G-EZPG'' for a flight of just under 2 hours to Geneva. |
|

We arrived at Geneva just after lunch and cleared customs / baggage reclaim quickly and for once no waiting at the car hire desk. First stop was |
|
|
||||||||||
|
the Jet Aviation / TAG / Privatair FBO facility where a large new hangar is in the process of being constructed. Access to the car park is still |
|
|
||||||||||
|
possible, however this car park will disappear after the hangar is completed. |
|
|
||||||||||
|
Working our way around the perimiter to the far side of the airfield our next stop was the RUAG facility which like the Jet Aviation ramp was full of |
|
|
||||||||||
|
aircraft. All aircraft can be read off easily from the FBO car park and many can also be photographed from the fence line. The FBO hangar also |
|
|
||||||||||
|
has glass windows in the wall adjacent to the road enabling a few of the internal visitors to be identified. Back tracking along the perimeter a quick |
|
|
||||||||||
|
stop was also made at the small café which is open to the public, this allowed the ramp on the other side of the RUAG FBO to be checked out. |
|
|
||||||||||
|
One last stop before departing for Zurich was the storage ramp in the North East corner of the field, normally only holding a few visitors this ramp |
|
|
||||||||||
|
was virtually full of biz jets that were on a longer stay than others, two nice residents of this ramp were Jetstar HZ-TNA and Gulf 2 SX-BTX an ex |
|
|
||||||||||
|
Saudia machine and was still sporting there basic colours. Both aircraft had clearly not flown for a while. |
|
|
||||||||||
|
|
|

The drive from Geneva to Zurich takes approx 2.5 hours, about half way between Geneva and Bern is a military base alongside the main Route |
|
|
||||||||||
|
No1, on display is a Mirage J2324. The base houses a technical school which has Mirages and Hunters and is also an active F5 base. |
|

It was dark when we arrived at Zurich so we headed straight for our Hotel, the Park Inn (formely the McDonalds Hotel), the hotel is on the |
|
|
||||||||||
|
perimeter road on the opposite side of the airport to the old terminal. The Saturday was spent entirely at Zurich, in the morning we stayed local |
|
|
||||||||||
|
to the long term parking ramp near the hotel to photograph many of the biz jets as they departed, this location is also near two of the runway |
|
|
||||||||||
|
intersections and if these runways are being used provides some good opportunities for some airliner shots. |
|
|
||||||||||
|
In the afternoon we went across to the new terminal (E) to the roof terrace to take some photographs from there, we also had a ramp bus tour |
|
|
||||||||||
|
arranged for 3pm (2 hour duration), this is an excellent tour provided by Buchair which comes highly recommended. All of the ramps (including |
|
|
||||||||||
|
the FBO ramps) are visited on the tour. |
