Its strange how most spotting trips these days seem to start very early in the morning, this one was no exception with an 0500 check in for the
KL1530 ''PH-WXC'' at Teesside. ......... Final destination Sao Paulo Brazil.
When KLM were offering some very reasonably priced tickets in January, the lure of another trip back to Brazil proved tempting. The trip
provided the opportunity to do some spotting and site seeing as well as visiting some ex work colleagues and friends.

The time between flights at Amsterdam was only 1 hour and 10 minutes which did not leave a lot of time to walk the piers, the following were
logged before boarding B777-300 ''PH-BVA'' KL791 for the 11 hour & 45 minute flight to Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport. The 425 seat
B777 only had 124 passengers on board.

I arrived at Guarulhos Airport about 1630 and cleared customs very quickly which left an hour to visit the viewing deck before it got dark. I
was staying at a Hotel in Guarulhos centre which was about 15 minutes drive by hotel shuttle bus.
The airport like most other Brazilian Airports has several viewing terraces, remember them ??? (4 in total, 2 in each terminal), two of the four
are good for photographs through the glass.
The following aircraft were logged over the last hour of daylight on the 20th and the morning of the 21st. The log is a complete log of all

On the afternoon of the 21st I took the shuttle bus from Guarulhos across the city to the domestic airport at Congonhas, the journey normally
takes around an hour but at peak traffic times or in bad weather, this journey can easily take 2 hours plus. Cost of the ticket is approx £9
single and as you would expect is a lot cheaper than a pre booked taxi which would cost around £50. The buses run in each direction at 30
minute intervals approx.
My stay at Congonhas was at the Golden Flat Hotel or the Nascente Do Sol as it has since been renamed since the TAM A320 crashed into
the building next door but one in mid 2007.
The following rooms offer good views for photographs 813 / 815 / 817 / 819 / 913 / 915 / 917 / 919 / 1013 / 1015 / 1017 / 1019. Room
rates are approx £35 per night with breakfast included. (Don’t expect 5 star luxury !!!)
The Golden Flat offers good opportunities to take photographs of aircraft turning off / onto the runway at Congonhas. This is one of the few
airports that I have visited in Brazil that does not have a roof terrace.
My stay here was for the afternoon of the 21st, all day 22nd and up to 1730 on the 23rd. The log is a complete log for all movements.

On the afternoon of the 23rd I flew up to Rio de Janeiro from Congonhas on TAM flight JJ3946, A319 ''PT-MZC'' a right hand window seat
had been requested which allowed me to log another dozen biz jets at the TAM & Lider FBO's as the aircraft taxied out to the runway take
off point, the flight departed at 1730 and we arrived at Santos Dumont (at the foot of the Sugar Loaf Mountain) at 1820.
My stay here was primarily to visit friends and to do some site seeing, the Saturday was taken up visiting the Corcavado mountain with the
statue of Christ at the top and on the afternoon going up the Sugar Loaf Montain via the cable cars. There is a Helipad at the top of the Sugar
Loaf which had two Jet Rangers both of which were doing pleasure flights around Rios main tourist attractions.
Cost of both visits is approx £10 and both come highly recommended. It should be noted that the Sugar Loaf affords excellent views of
arriving / departing traffic to Santos Dumont Airport. Nothing of note was at Santos Dumont on arrival on the 23rd, however the following
were read off from the Nitteroi roRio de Janeiro ferry on the morning of 24th May, the ferry passes very close to the end of the runway.

Cost of the Helicopter flights is approx £50, with a minimum of 6 people required before the helicopter will depart.
The whole of Monday (0900-1630) was taken up spotting at Rio de Janeiro Galeio, the airport has two terminals, of which Terminal 1 has
two official viewing decks, plus the café areas which also have windows, and Terminal 2 has no official viewing decks but offers limited
views from McDonalds. Most of the Terminal 2 movements can be photographed or read off from one of the terraces on Terminal 1.
The following is a complete log for all movements during my visit.
The airport is also a major transport base for the Brazilian Air Force and on most days of a variety of military transport movements can be
seen. I departed back to Sao Paulo Congonhas at 1630 on TAM flight JJ3257 A320 ''PT-MZT'' arriving back in SP at approx 1730

The last three and a half days were spent back at Guarulhos, prior to me boarding the KL792 B777-200 ''PH-BQK'' back to Amsterdam

Landing back at Amsterdam at 1115, I was not due to fly back to Teesside until 2145 on the KL1539. This gave me about 10hours in
