Newcastle-Dublin-Shannon-Stansted-Newcastle Bank Holiday Monday 7th May 2007    Dave Anderson, Ian McMaster, Aidan Williamson

back to  Homepage   Trip Menu

What to do on a Bank Holiday? cram four flights into one day, bag a few jets and home for supper, we knew this wouldn't be trip to see loads of new stuff but it was do-able and for just over £100 all in, we did it. Our flight from Newcastle with Ryanair (EI-DPB) left on time at 8.00am, vital if we weren't to spend the day in Dublin and the whole day going pear shaped.

On arrival at Dublin we stayed in the cafe and logged what moved for a few hours, I have not included Aer Lingus or Ryanair movements. Our next flight at 12.00pm was on an Aer Lingus A330 (EI-JFK), Lingus operate a number of their transatlantic flights via Shannon and offer very cheap seats on what was a virtually empty aircraft, in fact we were the only passengers in our section. The flight from gate to gate lasted no more than 30 minutes.

When we arrived at Shannon it was pouring down, no problem, the viewing terrace is inside giving good views across the airfield, only the gallery was closed due to a protest against the USA that had taken place the day before. After telling the information desk where we had come from and for how long, security were called and the gallery opened for us. Not a busy place at all, though it can get some gems, being a bank holiday visiting movements were low, not included are a few Ryanair and the Aer Lingus movements. After some food and a relaxing afternoon it was soon time to check in and off to Stansted again courtesy of Ryanair this time on EI-DAX.

We had about three hours at Stansted, busy time with lots of Ryanair & Easyjet coming and going (they are not listed), our fourth flight back to Newcastle at 9.30pm with Easyjet on Boeing 737 G-EZJK got us home just before 10.30pm. All in all a good day out, luckily all the flights were on time, or it could have been a different story!! Knowing all of the spotting would be from inside I didn't take my camera on this trip so no photo's
